Welcome to the new Horse Handler website. The journey continues with all of its ups and downs and I would just like to share a little of that journey with you now.
2002 saw our first documentary Snowy/Wild horses of the Tinderry ranges go to air on Channel 9. The DVD is available from the HH shop. The Snowy DVD was the beginning of an interesting though sometimes testing journey.
2004 saw the completion of the Wild Kids/Wild horses documentary with my mate Jack Thompson that also aired on Channel 9. The DVD is also available from the HH shop. It was also aired in France on the Equida Channel and I was asked to travel to France to present horsemanship clinics that proved to be an amazing experience. After France I was busy presenting clinics and demonstrations all over Australia as well as working with troubled kids. I am very committed to the work I do with troubled youth and began the development of a charity called The Kalandan Foundation.
I worked extensively during 2005 with troubled youth and built up a strong client base.
2006 saw the passing of my father Brian Powell. Dad died of Motor Neurone Disease. This is a tragic disease that took my father within 6 months of diagnosis. He was an incredible man who really believed in the work I was doing with troubled youth.
He is greatly missed and is my inspiration to continue my work.
2007 was a difficult time trying to pull together the charity and make sense of what I do. The Horse Flu crippled my business. I took a job on a 10,000
acre property called Coolah Creek. I spent many months mustering and doing sheep and cattle work which proved trying but rewarding.
2008 We finally received endorsement from the Australian Government as a PBI (Public Benevolent Institution) this status gives The Kalandan Foundation full tax deductibility on gifts.
2009 My work is now focussed on teaching troubled youth life skills through interaction with Australian wild horses/Brumbies.
